About the product:
Plantains are members of the banana family that staple foods in many tropical areas. The edible fruit of plantain bananas has more starch than the common dessert banana and is not eaten raw. Because plantains have the most starch before they ripen, they are usually cooked green, either boiled or fried, in savoury dishes. The ripe fruits are mildly sweet and are often cooked with coconut juice or sugar as a flavouring.
Plantains can be ripened at room temperature and will not continue to ripen once refrigerated.
Plantains are a rich source of fibre, vitamins A, vitamin C, vitamin K and vitamin B-6, and the minerals, magnesium and potassium.
The fibre in plantains helps to lower your cholesterol, which in turn keeps your heart functioning at its best. Plantains are an excellent option for gluten-free recipes such as pancakes. Plantains may also help to boost your immune system.
